Hole in Nose. PLEASE, please help

Please help! I’m past the “frustration” phase, have graduated the “scared” phase & am quickly moving into the “frustrated, scared, & pissed off“ phrase. I’ll explain as much detail as I can in hopes of a chance of getting your advice.

I’m a 38 yr old female w/Idiopathic Cardiomyophthy diagnosed when I was 18. With a diffibulator (PCD) that was implanted when I was 23. I can go into V-Tach or V-Fib at any given moment. I also have Gideon’s disease in my kidney, I don’t retain minerals like Potassium & Magnesium. I take 10 mg of Amiloride 1X a day, 120 mg of Sotalol 2 X a day, 800 mg of Magnesium Oxide 2 X a day, 10/650 of Hydrocodone every 4-6 hours for the pain in my face, & 800 mg of Ibuprofen every 6 hours for the pain as well.

Here goes. Bout 3 weeks ago I noticed sores inside my nose. 1 on 1 side of my nostril & another 1 in the other nostril. (I’m not sure what the medical term is but they’re on that center piece in the nose that separates the nostrils.) Their back to back. In the same spot, just on the other side. I was using a q-tip to apply Neosporin a few times a day. A week into doing this I almost passed out when the q-tip went straight through to the other side. I called the Dr & was given an appointment a week later. In the mean time I noticed that the hole was getting bigger. (I’m using a small flashlight to see up there.) I also see pockets of puss in there that when I gently pull up on the tip of my nose to look in there puss comes out of them w/that very slight amount of pressure.

I went to my appointment March 20. I told him what was going on. He asked how my throat felt. I told him that as of that morning my throat was extremely raw. He looked in my nose, but never did look at my throat. Immediately after looking in my nose he asked me if I did Cocaine. I kind of laughed at him & said, “Considering my heart condition don’t you think I would be dead if I had ever used cocaine?” He didn’t say anything just proceeded to write prescriptions for a Z-pac & for Bactroban. He told me not to use Neosporin, that it was probably making it worse. I asked about the hole & he said people use cocaine & walk around everyday w/holes in their noses & its no big deal. That if down the road it bothering me we could look into surgery.

I left his office feeling my problem was being brushed off as damage from cocaine use.

5 days later I noticed that the hole was getting bigger & I had taken the last dose of antibiotics that morning. I called a local service, “Ask-A-Nurse”. I explained everything to the nurse & she told me I needed to call my Dr & have him refer me to a ENT Dr.

15 minutes later she called me back to say considering the hole had doubled since seeing my Dr, she wanted me to go to the ER the next day. If I call for an appointment w/an ENT it would take a while to get in, where if I go to the ER they can get me in right away.

I received the same response from the ER Dr, even w/being adamant w/him that I’ve never used cocaine. He prescribed nasal spray & pain pills for the extreme pain in my face. Since it was now past 5 I was told they would call me the next day w/an appointment to see an ENT.

Next day I received the call they’d made an appointment. They gave me the date & time which was over a month away. I told the woman on the phone that w/as fast as this was growing I wouldn’t have a nose left in a month. She told me the ER Dr didn’t think it was urgent enough to require an earlier appointment.

Neither Dr so much as swabbed the area to see what is going on even w/clearly seeing the puss pockets & drainage. Today it is now almost the size of a dime w/constant drainage & puss pockets all around the area. (I‘m no Dr but, the presence of puss indicates an infection.) I don’t know what to do & I’m truly scared. What’s wrong w/me? Should I be scared? Please, please help me!
