I have had too many steroid injections to count and every one of them has taken a different amount of time to work, if at all. The last one didn't work at all. Some of them lasted for a few weeks and some lasted two months. One never knows how each will work! Good Luck!

How long does it normally take for a steroid injection in the shoulder to work?

Anywhere from right away to never. My last one took five days to kick in even though my doctor said it would take about two days. The first one kicked in right away but only lasted for three weeks. I have a different reaction every time. In general they say about two days but everyone and every shot is different.

I had steroid injection for tennis elbow. He told me that it should take about five days for it to take an effect.

I agree with the others, it can take anywhere from a couple of hours - to a week - to a month or never. I have even had some that actually made the pain worse. I still give it a try several times a year in hopes that I will have one that hits the spot. My prayers are with you.

I have had 3 injections (steroid ) .All three took a couple of days to work. They are wonderful.

I always hope that during the time they are taking away the pain, when I am able to use my shoulder more or less normally, I am exercising the muscle far more than I can with the pain so that when the steroids wear off my shoulder will be stronger ( I injured it in an accident and it never really recovered and then the deep achey ,wake me up in the night, arthritis pain started ) .

I have also had the injection in one of my "trigger" thumbs and it worked like magic. As I am now used to coping with two stiff thumbs , I didn't bother with the injection last time. The Doc insists that my no-longer-bending middle thumb joints are not at all related to the arthritis in the shoulder injury , but I can't help doubting that as both thumb joints seized up , one after another about 2 years after the shoulder.

Best wishes to all.
