Hello and thanks in advance for your help. I'm a vegetarian who recently started taking a vitamin B12 supplement (lozenge form). My question concerns the daily recommended intake of the vitamin. Almost every guide I consult recommends that I absorb at least 2.4 mcgs of B12 daily. Yet the supplement I purchased contains 3,000 mcg of B12 in each serving and recommends that I take one serving every day. So who should I listen to? The general consensus or the label on the side of the bottle? Thanks again.

Replying to: B12 Supplement

2.4 mcg is the RDA, or the minimum amount to get daily.

Supplements provide a lot more because it is cheap and there is no harm in providing extra. If you got a pill with only 2.4 mcg B12, it would either be barely visible, or be nearly all filler. Basically, you are getting some free bonus B12. Since it is a lot, you could take it less often than once a day.
