How do you put on Eye Liner!

Hi there,

A straight edge or an angled edge eyeliner brush allows you to dip the edge of the brush in eyeliner product and "walk" the brush across the lash edge if you are using a cream eyeliner or a powder eyeliner product.

The thin tapered brushes that you usually associate with eyeliner brushes are difficult to control.

After applying eyeliner try smudging it with a Q-tip to soften the line too!

yeah, I don't know how to put on Eye Liner. Every time I practiced to draw it on the paper or else, I can draw it easily, but when I applied it into my eyes, my hand was shaking and couldn't draw the perfect line, hic hic....Oh my god, shaky hands.....

Hi there,

Try using a flat edge eyeliner brush instead of an eyeliner brush that has a long tip. You bascially dip the flat edge of the brush into the eyeliner product and walk the edge of the brush along your lash line.

It may take some practice to get the look that you are after!

For the top, Pull your eye lid taught and begin your line in the middle of your eye and draw out to the corner. Then do inner corner to the middle. For the bottom, first, don't line the inside rim of your eye! That is just begging for an infection. Start at the outer corner and do short inward strokes.

If you have trouble stabilizing your hand, rest your elbow on the sink/mirror while you are drawing the line.

And practice, practice, practice! You can use q-tips to smudge the line, but they are also great for cleaning up mistakes Pull about 2/3 of the cotton off the tip and roll it between your fingers to tighten it up. Wait til the liner dries/sets then use the q-tip to clean your line.

Go with the angle brush method, I can put any eyeliner on and this is my favorite way. I wouldn't use any method that includes pulling on the skin around the eye , from what I understand repeated pulling on the skin can cause premature aging.

I prefer pencil eyeliner since it doesn't leave "dust" on my cheeks or in my eyes. However, I do not pull my eyelid taut. I start from the outside corner and work my way in, keeping as close to the lash line as possible. Then when I get very close to the inner corner, I stop and work from the inner corner to the place where I stopped. Liner on lower lid makes eyes look smaller, so usually don't put it there unless you have large eyes and want to make them look smaller

I also prefer the angle brush method as well - pencils are ok too but it seems like you don't get as even a line... Another trick to avoid eye liner or even eye shadow on your face is to do your eyes first...go ahead and moisturize, etc. but then do your eyes before your foundation, blush, etc - that way any product that does get on your eyes can be taken off easily without having to touch up the rest of your face...

If you prefer a pencil, you can use a neutral pencil black or brown and then soften it with a little eyeshadow to soften the look of the liner.

The best eyeliner's are made in West Germany or the Czech Republic. It is the way they are processed, the eyeliner is very smooth and gentle going on and the liner lasts a long time if you keep it close to the lash line.

I tend to avoid pencils as I find their lines too harsh. Instead, I tap/press dark eyeshadow along my upper lashline and lightly sweep the same colour along my lower lashline to define without overwhelming my eyes. I find it to be a softer and classier look.

If I need something more dramatic I moisten my brush and put the shadow on wet.

If I am doing a smokey eye I will layer the powder with pencil and pull a bit of the liner colours into my crease to create extra drama.

Liquid liner requires a steady hand - something I dont have. What I do to compensate is use the provided applicator to create "dots" along my upper lashline. Then I use a fine angled brush to drag the liquid along the lashline in a connect the dots fashion - once again creating a softer effect than a direct and continuous application line - yet it is has more drama than previously mentioned methods.

I get a lot of compliments on my eyeliner so I know what I'm talking about. I prefer liquid liner. I start out close to the inner eye, but not all the way. The brush has a heavier application with the first brush stroke, then move toward the inner most of the eye to get a thinner line. On the outer end of eye lid, paint a small line that follows the curve of the lower eyelid. Then dab to fill in to blending with the first line. Have a blow dryer ready (I know it sounds funny but it works) and put on warm setting, then blow dry to set. If you make a mistake, the easiest way to clean it up is with neutrogenia's makeup remover that is a packaged moist tissue. If you purchase with the tub, lightly used tissues can be reused when reinserted into tub. If I could draw it for you I would, but I wouldn't know how to attach to the message.

It is very easy to put on eyeliner with a very tiny brush. You can even use a sable watercolor brush if you want. The trick is to keep the touch very light. rest your hand on your cheek if you are not steady. Then draw the brush across the top of the lid--light touch! At the corner, you can slightly draw it out to the length of your lashes and it will give your eyes a slight lift. If you want to practice, you can use a glass. set it on a shelf at eye level and draw your brush on the outside of the glass. Keep the touch light and you will get a smooth line. Practice makes perfect!

I went to a couple make-up partys 20 yrs.ago&was used as an example on how 2 apply&wear it exactly the same 20yrs. later!(except bright blue isnt n style anymore!) I used 2 use liquid or pencil, liquid irritated my eyes&is harder 2 apply&remove. But does give a more dramatic look.Also,have been gettin eye compliments for yrs. Start inner eye to outer,apply 3/4 way across eye, lightly draw a line swooping liner lightly across eye,upper&lower lids til they connect,aim up(like cats eyes),so ur eyes dont look sad or droopy.(The closer 2 inner eye u put it on the smaller eyes will look)Go in the make-up isle&look at the directions on the back of eye-liner packages for directions on how to apply,&unless you have a very steady hand Liquid is hard to apply also for practice use a cheaper liner so u can wipe off easily& when u have it perfected buy a good color-stay that wont wear-off or smudge.(my eyeliner is still on when I wake up,if i fall asleep w/out washing it off!)Practice makes perfect!

To apply eyeliner always try to support the outer palm of your hand on your cheek that seems to work for me

I am like you Brittany, I don't know much about applying eyeliner, but i the ladies have given us great tips. woohooo!

I asked a professional make-up artist (who has done celebrities, etc.) from Chicago the same question, and she said that the best way to put on a pencil eyeliner is to start in the center of the eye, then feather out small strokes outside and then start from the inside corner and feather to the middle.

For the bottom lashes, there are two great options. Penciling them in can be a little tough, and sometimes when the pencil is too hard your eyes will water, ruining anything that you hope to accomplish in a few minutes (you have to wait until the area is dry again). If you buy a small brush that is a flat line, you can buy an eyeshadow as your liner and carefully brush along your lashes. Powder is great because it doesn't run throughout the day like pencil can.
