My mom had a stroke about 4 years ago. Can music therapy help her get some of her speech back. Looking for hope in Alabama.

I shared this reply to another post but I will share it with you as well... Music can be very therapeutic. My mother (80 years old) had a stroke a year ago and has severe expressive and receptive aphasia and has long and short term memory loss (or at least she can't verbalize the memories...all of her words come out mixed up). I care for her at home and one day I wheeled her up to our piano and I was amazed that she could pick out melodies with one hand that she used to play years ago. I do believe it helps the brain recover faster. She also loves to listen to music and likes me to sing to her. Yesterday she even tried to sing with me. She didn't get the words or melody right but SHE WAS SINGING!!! I was elated! Hope this will encourage you.
