For the past 5 years or so, I've had off and on breathing difficulties.

I know I'm breathing, and I know I'm getting the oxygen... obviously, since I'm still here talking.

But I can't seem to take a full breath, it gets half way and it stops, and it doesn't FEEL like I'm getting the oxygen.

When this first started happening it went on for a few days before my mother took me to the doctor and the only thing he really told be was that I had restricted breathing passage ways. He prescribed me albuterol, but I never liked taking it because it made me feel shaky. After a while it just went away.

It comes back every now and then but usually doesn't last more than a day. But recently it started back up again really bad and has been going on for a few days again.

I figure it's probably just allergies, but allergies to what I have no idea. Nothing has changed here recently. When it started five years ago I was living in Texas but am now in Florida so I don't know what's going on.

It's not painful really... just really annoying and uncomfortable. I've gotten a couple of light headed spells that only lasted for a few seconds but nothing besides that.

Yes, I have the same experience: I breathe, but it doesn't feel like I'm getting enough oxygen. I don't wheeze noticeably. Yes, very annoying, I get the light headed spells, too, and it sometimes makes me irritable or just plain tired. Like you, mine is on and off, not all year. My doctor, an allergy and asthma specialist, said I have asthma caused by allergies to pollen, mold, & dust. I live in Georgia, a similar climate to yours, and right now, I'm having problems because of all of the pollen in the air. My doctor also said that while my asthma is caused by the allergies, it is also probably aggravated by the humidity. I take allegra and veramyst for the allergies and advair for the asthma, plus I have albuterol to use only when needed. I would recommend seeing an allergy & asthma specialist if you haven't already done so.

I have a similar problem as well- it doesn't happen all the time, just every so often, but it is very annoying. Sometimes I force myself to yawn to get the satisfaction of enough oxygen going into my lungs. Sitting up straight seems to help, as well as taking deep breaths, breathing in slowly through your nose and out slowly through your mouth. I do not have asthema, but do have chronic allergies (to what I do not know) which cause post nasal drip or something that clogs my throat. Good luck finding a solution to your problem, I wish I could be more help!

I have the same thing except it hasnt gone away for almost a year now. Years ago it happened for a week and went away but now its been persistent. I went to the Pulmonologist who said I had slightly extended lungs but after all the tests he could do there was no reason for it. They thought I might have asthma but when they gave me a treatment at the office I never feel completely better maybe a little improved. I have inhalers which seem to just irrate my throat.

I always have terrible post nasal drip and sinus trouble. But I have had that my whole life.

Went to a alergist who said I dont have alergies to everything he tests for.. yet I sneeze a lot , always have stuff coming out of my eyes..ears and nose.. lol im a mess..

Recently my primary Doc. prescribed predisone for 11 days, along with a decongestion drug and a 5 day antibiotics. I thought I felt better when I first started taking the predison but now Im weaning off it and feel just as bad. I had a low fever after taking all this medicine and a sore throat which may be from the inhalers i am also taking.

I just want to feel like I am getting a full breath of air and be able to get to sleep at night... and function at work without strugglin to breath.

Someone I work with mentioned that she had the exact same experience and that musenex and zyrtec D actually made her better. I'm talking to the doc about that tomorrow.

I have the same thing. The first time it happened years ago the doc. thought it was just muscle soreness from the gym and it did go away in a few weeks, but I dont think it was muscles. Now I have had it for almost a year. I have done the following.

Lung Doc. found expanded lungs in my xrays, did several asthma tests (i never felt better after the treatment but they still think I have asthma), lung function test and stress test, many ekgs, echo gram of my heart. Blood work. He said that he could find no reason for the xray result and that I probably have asthma.

I went to an allergy doc. who tested me for allergies and came to the conclusion that I probably have asthma.. He recommended an inhaler and emergency inhaler both which seem to irratate my throat more than they help.

I NEVER have wheezing just chest tightness and the feeling of not being able to take a full breath. Its hard to get to sleep at night but once I do I stay asleep. Soemtimes my chest hurts a little but i think its from always trying to take a full breath and some dizyness/light headnesses when I am feeling really bad.

I also saw a Cardiologist and had stress test everything is fine with my heart.

Tomorrow Im seeing a regular doc again.. he just tried the following last week. shot of prednison, antibotics and decong. I had a low grade fever (a side effect i think) and sore throat (although that might be from the inhalers) after I started taking all that, but I finished and it didnt seem to help.

Im seeing the same doc again tomorrow, but tonight I bought Zyrtec D and Musinex. A teacher I work with said that she has had all the same thiings as me andtried all the same things and that these over the counter medicines helped her the most. I seem to feel a little better tonight...

The really frustrating thing is HOW LONG DO YOU TRY SOMETHING BEFORE DECIDING IT ISNT WORKING? I have read that if you have suffered from something like this for a while it will take longer to get better.
