My car is 11 yrs old and has 110,000 miles on it. Right now all the deals on cars , tax breaks on the sales tax is looking good.... My car is a 98 Mercedes and honestly probably has another 100000 miles on it.... Please take my itch from a new car away..... I have no car payments, a great honest mechanic who specializes in mercedes.....and only have done a few fixes the last couple years that are way less than car payments... I don't need a new car...I would like one(a bigger one...mini van or SUV) but I don't NEED one..... I don't need a new car....I don't NEED a new car....

My car is 7 years old, has over 110,000 miles on it - (I swear, I don't know how I rack up the miles so much!!!) . I just paid mine off in September and ever since the day I walked out of the bank with it paid off completely there's been this nagging little voice that says "Get a new one" LOL ....

BUT I just keep reminding myself: I DON'T WANT A CAR PAYMENT!!!!

So I am going to drive mine into the ground before I get a new one. I feel ya, though! It is tempting!!!

Just think of all the money you can save not buying a new car. Is the tax break really worth the extra $$ out of pocket each month?

I do know that I will ever have another mercedes. This was actually DH's car. We bought it used and I paid it off shortly after he died. So maybe that is a reason this is my last mercedes (for awhile or at least until the kiddos are grown up..) The nice thing is that people keep telling me they really will go to 250,000 miles if kept up which I do dilegently....

Here is a suggestion I read. Act as if you have a car payment - put aside $300 each month for that purpose. Then, when you need a new car, you will have a big down payment ready. If you find the $300 is impacting your budget, you'll know you made the right decision to wait.

Good suggestion, DiDi....I try to do that, too, but it always seems to get used up on other things

Sandra, just keep putting it off for as long as you can....it won't be too long and the boys will be wanting you to get a new car (b/c of embarrassment)...and by then THEY can do the repairs for you!!

My car will be paid off in Dec of this year. But those deals are VERY tempting but I can't wait to be payment free! Hopefully, we can make it another year before DH needs a new vehicle, too!!

Keep yourself payment free. The upkeep is proly cheaper than a car payment.

We don't have any car payments, both are payed off in full. But having said that it's tempting for me to get a new car. Dh has a bmw that he loves and it runs wonderfully. I have a Dodge grand caravan and it is a thorn in my side. It is a 2002 and as we speak dh is out taking it to the mechanics, again! I will never buy another dodge, at least not a caravan. If it wasn't paid off I would so replace it in a heartbeat. We just can't afford to add a car payment to our monthly bills right now.

I had an itch a couple weeks ago...it's gone again! More room would be nice but having new debt, regardless of the amount isn't our choice in the current economy. Give it a few days/weeks...I bet you'll be happy you waited and the itch will be gone! Especially with spring coming, you'll forget all about it!

I think Cinda has the right idea. I have to say I have been looking. We haven't had a car in years but we may need to get one next year depending on where Levi goes to school. Of course, DH says we will get the car for Lisa as a company car. He doesn't want the headache.

It's funny you post this. I almost posted something like this yesterday, but ran out of time.

I have the itch right now, too. We had to take our Infiniti into the dealership yesterday. All those new cars with new cars smells made me want a new one, too. Then we came home and ran the numbers. We just can't afford it right now. After tax returns and DH's bonus, things might look better. For now, we just have to wait. Our Infiniti is going on 10 years old, but only has 62,000 miles on it. I *almost* wish something big would happen to it so we would have a good reason to replace it.

My DH wants a truck, but we're saving for a house downpayment and will NOT get another car payment, so he's paying his savings account a "car payment" every month and when there's enough in there to buy the truck he wants, he'll pay cash.

My car's lease ends Dec 1 so I have to figure out what to get. I really don't like anything though - not a minivan person & have two kids so its gotta be some kind of SUV vehicle. I was online the other day looking & I like the pathfinder & the xterra. 3 years ago when my lease was up they were the cars I wanted & he forced me into the pilot.
