My mother had Endometriosis and they doctors didn't know the severity of it until they went in for a complete hysterectomy. It was all over her female organs. I am 29f. I have a bit of a lower belly pooch and could I have Endometriosis? I have went to my regular gyno appts for the last 4 years. How do they diaognose this and what are the symptoms?

Hi. There is a hereditary component to endo, but it's not absolute. If your mom had it, you are at increased risk, but it's not a sure thing. And a pooch is not a tell tale symptom... I think many women without endo would complain about having a little more of a pooch than they would like. Usually signs are pain... long, heavy and painful periods, pelvic pain, GI pain, painful bm, painful peeing, pain with sex, lower back pain, and infertility. The only way to diagnose endo is via surgery so that the doc can visualize and then biopsy any implants that are found. Hope this answers your questions.

Liz
